I don’t recommend pencil unless you have some sort of archival setting spray. Graphite is a powder. Powder dusts off and puts a silver sheen everywhere as it slowly fades away if it isn’t set. You can check sketchbooks you have to see the beginning of the ghosting issue.

I recommend pens, but I only recommend archival pens. A good one is the micron pen due to it’s low cost (less than $4) and it’s easy use. Also, it’s a felt tip so less smudge risk as opposed to ballpoint, and it bas never bled for me.
