Does Hipaa apply to interns?
It is expected that all interns, volunteers and observers will comply with this policy at all times. All client personal health information is protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Any unauthorized use of client personal health information is illegal under the HIPAA Act.

Do student nurses have access to patient records?
Student health records maintained by a school nurse are part of the education record subject to FERPA. California law also may apply to health information held by a school nurse. These records are not covered by HIPAA because HIPAA specifically exempts from its coverage health information in an education record.
Can interns take days off?
You can take your day off. Interns do not get the privilege of paid leaves and thus you won’t be paid for the day. You just have to fill in that you’re taking your day off in a portal.
Does it matter where I intern?
The short answer is, no. The internship you take should resemble (even tangentially) what you are studying in school. Not only is this going to help you actually get the internship, but this also increases your chances of securing a job after graduation in your chosen field.
Can you take leave during internship?
Yes. There is no hard and fast rule that interns cannot take a leave or fall sick during their training period. Interns are also human and companies today understand the need to have a flexible working environment for one and all.
